A recent world event in which satellite imagery was extensively relied on by a variety of stakeholders was the COVID-19 pandemic. In this article we aim to give an overview of the types of information offered through remote sensing (RS) to help address different issues related to the pandemic. We also discuss about the stakeholders that benefited from the data, and the value added by its availability. The content is presented under four sub-sections; namely (1) the use of RS in real-time decision-making and strategic planning during the pandemic; how RS revealed the (2) environmental changes and (3) social and economic impacts caused by the pandemic. And (4) how RS informed our understanding of the epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2, the pathogen responsible for the pandemic. We present a case of a 45-year-old male who presents with substernal chest pain three days after receiving the second dose of his COVID-19 mRNA (Moderna) vaccine. A transthoracic echo showed reduced left ventricular ejection fraction of 25-30% with akinesis of the mid to distal anterior, anteroseptal, anterolateral, inferolateral, inferoseptal, and inferior walls. Patient symptoms improved significantly during his hospitalization. Repeat trans-thoracic echo four days after his hospitalization showed ejection fraction recovery without segmental wall motion abnormalities. Surveys of 46 primary care clinic personnel were conducted in June 2017 and July 2017 to assess the acceptability, effectiveness, and credibility of lay health coaches in the clinics. Clinic personnel rated coach acceptability, impact, and credibility on a five-point Likert scale as 3.78, 3.76-4.04, and 3.71-3.95, respectively. Additionally, interviews revealed support for a team-based approach and recognition of the potential of coaches to enhance care. Similarly, a combination of pre-clinical and clinical research over the past two decades has implicated cerebral microvascular pathology in the initiation and progression of multiple neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. We experienced a case that developed just before surgery. A woman in her 80s with no complications except hypertension was scheduled for colon cancer surgery. Although she was asymptomatic, after entering the operating room, her surgery was canceled due to unexplained hypotension and ST-segment elevation on the electrocardiogram monitor. Emergency coronary angiography was performed immediately, and the presence of TCM was revealed. Her surgery was therefore performed after the improvement in her cardiac function. Once a patient is in the operating room, the normalcy bias kicks in and it becomes difficult to decide to stop the surgery. We present a case of a post-menopausal older woman who suffered an acute non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), secondary to a SCAD of the right posterior descending artery (PDA), after strenuous exercise. As the patient was hemodynamically stable and without signs of ongoing ischemia, she was managed conservatively. SCAD should be in differentials for patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who have no or few cardiovascular atherosclerotic risk factors. SCAD can be missed due to low suspicion of ACS in young and healthy patients. ACS from SCAD is often misdiagnosed and/or mismanaged as atherosclerotic ACS. Increasing awareness about this condition can lead to earlier diagnosis and prevention of sudden cardiac deaths. As most cases of SCAD can be managed conservatively, differentiating it from atherosclerotic ACS can reduce unnecessary reperfusion procedures and complications thereof.During the COVID-19 pandemic, wearing masks to prevent the spread of infection has been imperative. Though many wear N-95 masks with circumferential head straps, the use of surgical ear loop-style masks has increased. Dermatologic complications, such as contact dermatitis, psoriasis, and local irritation, have been described in several reports. One such complication has been pressure injury to the external ear, secondary to friction from the ear loops. While external ear pressure ulcers caused by mask-wearing have already been observed, injuries extensive enough to require surgical reconstruction have yet to be described. Herein, we present a unique case of an elderly male with a severe external ear deformity caused by prolonged, uninterrupted mask-wearing that was treated with a complex ear reconstruction. The pressure caused a full-thickness erosion of the helical and conchal cartilage with partial auricle amputation from constant mask wear. Our patient is a 50-year-old man with a past medical history of drug-induced lupus to hydralazine and recent bilateral cellulitis in his lower extremities. He was presented with complaints of vesicles on his palms and soles and a scaling rash that had spread over his torso, arms, and trunk. Laboratory studies found no evidence of an active rheumatological condition with complement C3 and C4 levels being normal and no anti-dsDNA, anti-histone, anti-Smith, anti-ribonucleoprotein (anti-RNP), anti-centromere, anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA), anti-Ro, or anti-La antibodies present. Moreover, syphilis, HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, rickettsia antibody, and Borrelia burgdorferi antibody testing was negative suggesting a non-infectious etiology of the rash. Hypothesizing a dermatologic origin of the rash, a skin biopsy was performed that revealed intermittent foci of moderate hyperparakeratosis and mild hypergranulosis indicative of eczematous dermatitis.
